Getting started
From a MusicXML file to an annotated score, in four steps.
Before you start
You need a MusicXML file. Every major notation program exports one: in MuseScore, Sibelius, Finale or Dorico, choose File then Export and pick MusicXML. Many public score libraries also offer a MusicXML download alongside the PDF.
The four steps
- Open New score from the sidebar and drop your file onto the upload area, or click it to browse.
- The score opens in the editor. The display options are on the right on a wide screen, and behind the gear button on a narrow one.
- Choose the naming system you want and adjust anything else, then press Apply changes. This saves the settings with the score as well as redrawing it.
- Use Export to produce a PDF or an SVG, or Share to create a link someone else can open.
Settings are saved per score, not globally. A beginner's piece can show note names with octave numbers while a familiar one shows none.
Try it without an account
The home page has a demo: drop a MusicXML file onto it and the annotated result opens straight away. Nothing is uploaded to the server and nothing is saved, the file stays in your browser. Signing in is what lets you keep a score, change its settings and export it.
